Giant Schnauzer second to a German Shepard, of course. I’d love to have a German Shepard but can’t handle the shedding. Giants are intelligent, loyal, and capable guard dogs.

Sadly they tend to develop joint issues as they age.

mine has just begun to have a ‘loose’ backside

He has an unsteady gait; He does not suffer (because quite expressive for each small boo), but it is clear that the 20-25 km hikes that we used to do, it’s over. sometimes he even looks bored if the ‘lil’night tour’ lasts longer than expected

it is this which is the saddest at heart, knowing in advance that certain possibilities, certain habits are already buried before himself.

Lmao they are a bit dumb from time to time.

Hopefully, he never have been this smart so I notice a blatant difference if a senile dementia is added to his problems, poor boy..

I can confirm Labradors are great with newborns, they absolutely do temper their innate energetic behaviour and move very slowly and carefully around babies. Sadly they tend to develop joint issues as they age.

We have a Lab-Golden Retriever mix, and she was an absolute darling when our siblings were born, never a problem on that front. She always called us when the babies were crying and acted all worried until they stopped. Good doggo.

I guess she’s my favourite among my dogs even though all the others are very well-mannered too 🙂

    cons: […] moderately intelligent

Lmao they are a bit dumb from time to time.

I understand now that people have been misled by the title (so, it is not only in the newspapers that people only read the title..): the idea is that dog owners present their animal to us and possibly give to others advices on their education, medical care and even the characteristics of behaviour for each race (especially sociability with young children)

German Shepherds are, of course, awesome.

But I recently came across a type that I like even more. It is called Tamaskan, I love them because they look very much like wolves. I guess they are not technically a full breed but some type of hybrid (German Shep and Husky).
The Czech Wolfdog is cool too.

Hm, mine would be a German Shepherd.

    Or maybe a Wolfdog: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Czechoslovakian_Wolfdog

Share your personal experience with these strange fluffy forms of life.

Mine : Tôjô, (named after an unfairly defamed Japanese democrat), Black Lab-mutt, nearly 13.

pros : has the qualities of the Lab : rarely barks, very sociable with anybody/thing, it’s the kind of dog I would let with a newborn, really. Stand very well day-long car journeys across the country during holidays.

cons : has the faults of the Lab : glutonnous, stubborn, moderately intelligent and since the ‘mutt’ part pushed him towards the original standard of the breed with long hairs and a thick undercoat, the loss of enough hairs to make me a new quilt annually. Big burrower too – it can be an advantage if you have a tree stump to uproot

and of course the problems of the age : I can’t bring him anymore for 20-25km hikes as I used to do : he will be still excited by the idea but he’s faspidly tired.

Tôjô is not only a demanding philosopher, constantly meditating on the emptiness of the world, he is also an inventive artist, capable of producing Dantesque turds
