I don’t think Tolkien drew inspiration from Wagner’s material specifically, rather both of them drew inspiration from the older folk sagas.
Interestingly LotR movies soundtrack sounds more Celtic and Latin (with Gregorian choirs) than “Germanic”.

    Hello everyone,

Just wanted to start a post on Wagner and Tolkien. Perhaps my favorite European composer! And one of my favorite books, The Lord Of The Rings and they are related. Tolkien got the idea from Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen. As I understand it, Wagner’s work has a racial element to it, and although Tolkien denied it some people have posited that The Lord Of The Rings has a racial element to it too.
Moreover, E Michael Jones theorized that Tolkien had omitted the most important part of Wagner’s Ring Cycle. What do people think about this?
