Nope. Sometimes these things are a shot in the dark.

I share your opinion of DeSantis. There are no sitting politicians of whom I have a positive view. (Candidates Neil Kumar of Arkansas and Michael Sisco of West Virginia seem pretty good. Looking for others.) But many politicians can be persuaded or dissuaded to or from particular actions by perceived public opinion. If DeSantis, with his presidential ambitions, comes to believe that portraying himself as a rock-ribbed ‘America-Firster’ requires making a show of pulling the FL national guard out of Ukraine, I’d count that as a net good.

Also, oops, typo: of course, the last line of my sample letter should be “Stand up TO the Washington War Party!” (The Party has already long been stood up!)

    Thanks for your response.

It’s not too political, I am curious if you heard anything back?
I know a bit about DeSantis, and well, it isn’t positive. The law prohibiting “anti-semitic” speech has pretty much solidified my opinion on the guy.

As always, when the time comes, encourage everyone to refuse the draft.

Sorry if this is too political for a dating site but I was shocked to learn that there are 165 Florida National Guard troops deployed to Ukraine. I would encourage everyone, especially Florida residents, to fire off an email to Governor DeSantis at governorron.desantis@eog.myflorida.com and ask him to demand their immediate withdrawal.

You may use the text of my letter as a crib sheet but please rearrange the words a bit and personalize it so it doesn’t look like spam! You don’t need to use your real name and address but you should indicate that you are a Floridian.

    Dear Governor DeSantis:

Please demand the immediate withdrawal of ALL Florida National Guard troops in Ukraine, including the 165 members of the 53rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team currently stationed there.

According to Sgt. Dan McKnight, founder of Bring Our Troops Home who served in Afghanistan from 2005 to 2007, “sending American service members into a country which has been involved in a low-level war with a nuclear superpower since 2014 is not just bad policy, it’s laying a tripwire. President Biden is wittingly or not setting our country up for World War III.”

Please also support “Defend the Guard” legislation introduced in both the House and Senate for the coming Florida legislative session. According to Florida State Rep. Anthony Sabatini (R-District 32), “participating in war without a proper declaration of war from Congress is unconstitutional. It’s time for the states to pass ‘Defend the Guard’ legislation to require Congress to put their name on the line before our National Guard troops put their boots on the ground.”

Stand up the Washington War Party!

    Thank you.

    Yours,
